From the collection of Phyllis M. Goddard, widely respected collector, researcher and author of books on William Spratling's works. She featured these earrings in her book "Spratling Silver: A Field Guide", 2003, pg. 96, fig. 2-301. See last image for reference.
These are really beautiful! Each earring is a whimsical spiraled sea shell with an angled swirl of silver and amethyst cone-shaped cabochons. The level of detail is amazing, from the slightly angled tips to the concave backs that comfortably fit the shape of the ear lobe. If mermaids wore earrings, these would be them.
Circa 1951-1967, Third Design Period.
One earring stamped with WS scripted initials and 925. The other is stamped with Spratling's Eagle 30 assay. Each measures approx. 1 3/4" long x 5/8" wide. Screw backs.
Provenance: from the collection of Phyllis M. Goddard.
Excellent condition; normal wear and surface scratches commensurate with age and use. Amethyst have natural inclusions as is typical for Spratling's works. Please see photos for condition details.
